Dr. Laplume's research lies at the intersection of strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation. He explores the competitive and institutional barriers that hinder potential entrepreneurs from successfully launching new ventures, as well as the enablers that facilitate their success. His studies range from examining the preparatory experiences that build entrepreneurial capacity to gaining deeper insights into the entrepreneurial ecosystems that support them. He also studies the inner workings of corporations to better understand how they do innovation and entrepreneurship inside their walls.
He studies spinout ventures, which are new businesses or startups created by former employees of incumbent organizations and recently published a book on the topic.
