Bio/Research

Avideh Gharehgazlou is an Assistant Professor of Psychology (limited term). She completed her Doctoral degree and the Collaborative Program in Neuroscience (CPIN), from the Institute of Medical Science (IMS) at the University of Toronto in 2022. The overarching aim of her Doctoral dissertation was to improve our understanding of the genetic and environmental influences on cortical gyrification morphology through studying this brain metric using Magnetic Resonance Imagine (MRI) in conditions with largely genetic bases (Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD) and a condition with mostly environmental basis (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD).

Dr. Gharehgazlou has been teaching since 2022 at Western University and Toronto Metropolitan University. The Undergraduate level courses she has taught include: Introduction to Personality Theory and Research, The Maladjusted Mind, Introduction to Psychology I and II, Adjustment, Stress and Coping, as well as Psychology of Addictions.

In addition to her teaching and research experience, Dr. Gharehgazlou has also served as a reviewer for Journals including Brain Structure and Function as well as Translational Psychiatry.
