Bio/Research

Don Rose is an associate professor in, and former director of, the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing. He has held several positions in clinical practice, administration and education. His research foci include nursing ethics, issues in forensic/mental health nursing, and evaluating the use of technology/simulation in nursing curriculum. Current research studies include: work-life issues in correctional nursing, an intervention study examining “near misses” in mental health, nursing and medical students’ skill acquisition and proficiency using simulation and an evaluation study of support and housing programs for persons with serious mental illness in Northeast Ontario. Most recently, he completed a provincial study across 14 universities with senior nursing students, faculty and alumni examining how caring is taught and enacted in practice settings. Dr. Rose currently teaches in the undergraduate programs. He also acts as a faculty advisor to graduate students and is involved in graduate student supervision at the Masters and PhD levels. At the 44th Biennial Convention (November 1, 2017), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), Don was elected as the Region 10 Coordinator for the 2017-2019 Biennium.
