Bio/Research

Dr. Deska is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and the director of the Social Cognition lab at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). He received his PhD in social psychology at Miami University and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto. At TMU, he supervises MA and PhD students and teaches courses related to social psychology and social cognition.

Dr. Deska’s research investigates how the impressions people form of others produce and sustain inequality. Specifically, Dr. Deska examines how social category membership (e.g., race, socioeconomic status, gender) and features of individuals (e.g., facial appearance, emotional expression, body shape) lead to discriminatory and dehumanizing judgments.
