Dr. Papini's research interests are in the fundamental wear mechanisms of solid particle erosion, abrasive jet technology and the biomechanics of orthopaedic implants. Dr. Papini has won numerous grants from Materials and Manufacturing Ontario (New Faculty, Interact Grants), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (Discovery, Strategic, Research Tools and Instruments Grants) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (Regenerative Medicine and Nanomedicine Team Grant). In 2004, he was awarded the Ryerson Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science Research Excellence Award, and in 2005 the Toronto Metropolitan University Research Award. In 2007, Dr. Papini was awarded a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair for his work in Abrasive Jet Technology.
As of January 2011, Dr. Papini has authored or co-authored 68 refereed journal publications.
