Bio/Research

Mitchell Kosny is a past director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP). On the international front, he has held visiting faculty positions in both China and Germany. He has been lead consultant on many Canadian government strategic planning and local government capacity-building projects involving senior level planners, community leaders, and politicians in Latvia, Russia, South Africa, Namibia, Lithuania and Palestine. His international efforts have also resulted in several International Agreements of Cooperation and research initiatives between SURP and universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Australia.

Kosny has a long-standing involvement with municipal issues, governance and the human services sector. He has served as president of the Social Planning Council Toronto and chair of the City of the Toronto Planning Advisory Committee. He was chair of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation during the initial roll-out of the Regent Park Redevelopment initiative. He is a regular media commentator on local politics in Toronto, Ontario and across Canada.
