Bio/Research

While pursuing a master’s degree at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, Sri Lanka-born Mohamed Wahab received a unique recognition: he was awarded a scholarship from the King of Thailand. “The experience illustrated that when you strive for excellence, remarkable things happen,” says Wahab.

Moving to Canada to pursue doctoral studies in industrial engineering, Wahab went on to specialize in helping organizations improve their operations and decision making. With expertise in operational research and finance engineering, Wahab works across diverse industries, including health care, the energy sector, supply chain, marketing and finance.

The projects he leads are as diverse as the industries he serves. He has worked with marketing firms to improve their process of introducing new products to market, built a model for a major grocery store chain to predict how changes in weather impact demand for coffee, and designed a first-of-its kind financial model that enables a major auto manufacturer to assess the cost of purchasing a flexible manufacturing system. “The common theme in my work is helping organizations become more efficient and effective,” he says. “I love combining theory and application to find ways to make better decisions.”
