Mustafa Koc is a professor at the Department of Sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). He also serves as the director of the Toronto Met Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Studies Centre. Dr Koc completed his education at the Bogazici University, Turkey and, University of Waterloo and University of Toronto in Canada. Mustafa was among the founders and administrators of the Centre for Studies in Food Security, Canadian Association for Food Studies and Food Secure Canada. In recognition for his contributions, he received life time career achievement awards by the Toronto Met Faculty Association in 2016 and the Canadian Association for Food Studies in 2017. Mustafa Koc's research and teaching interests include sociology of food, migration and diasporic foodways. He is currently involved in research on food security concerns among Afghan and Syrian refugees in Canada.
