Naïma Cherchem is an assistant professor in the Entrepreneurship and Strategy Department at Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU). Naïma received her Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Jean Moulin-Lyon 3 (France). She also holds an M.Sc. in HRM from the University Rennes 1 (France) and BCom. from the University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed (Algeria). After earning her Ph.D., she pursued a Post-Doc position at HEC Montreal.
Her research interests explore topics at the intersection of strategic entrepreneurship, institutional entrepreneurship, internationalization and cognition. Specifically, she focuses on questions that pertain to successful pathways of strategic entrepreneurship actions within existing firms and the interplay of multiple factors, such as psychological traits, cognition, organizational factors, entrepreneurial ecosystems and institutional systems that lead to sustainable development and growth. Her current research examines the institutional system's and entrepreneurial ecosystem's role in developing and reinventing existing firms, with particular emphasis on specific contexts (e.g., emerging markets, turbulent business environments, Covid-19 pandemic). Naïma Cherchem has published several academic works in leading peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Family Business Strategy, Small Business Economics Journal and International Journal of Case Studies in Management.
Before joining TMU, Naïma taught, supervised students and developed various courses in Management, Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the undergraduate, graduate and MBA programs at several AACSB business schools in France and Canada. She has also been a consultant to Business Families Foundation and Fondation de l’Entrepreneurship.
With a glowing heart, Naïma Cherchem is proud to belong to her homeland Algeria as much as to her adoptive country Canada. She carries within her a beautiful mosaic of Arabic, Mediterranean, North African and Canadian values.
