Dr. Neverson’s research is grounded in the areas of mass media analysis, the mediated representation of marginalized groups, and sociological aspects of sports. Her most recent publication examines how Canadian perspectives on CEWs (conducted energy weapons), and their use by police, changed before and after the death of Robert Dzeikanski. Another recent work examines the complex and competing diaspora media discourses constructed around blackness as identity via the Toronto Africentric Alternative School. In addition to her research interests in media and sport, Dr. Neverson has engaged in a collaborative project with department colleagues exploring the integration of critical pedagogy in teaching and learning at Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) entitled, Inhabiting Critical Spaces: Teaching and Learning from the Margins at Toronto Metropolitan University (2013).
