Sara Booth is a settler of mostly British Isles descent, born and raised in Toronto / Tkaronto, and parent to a teen. They have studied cultural studies, theatre, English literature, gender studies, midwifery, and most recently, education and Indigenous health. Professor Booth has been a registered midwife since 2002, when she graduated from the Midwifery Education Program at what is now TMU. They have practised in Toronto their whole career, and from 2005 on, this has been alongside the Indigenous midwives who started Seventh Generation Midwives Toronto and the Toronto Birth Centre.
To date in her career, Professor Booth's research and practice has focused on creating continuing education spaces for working midwives that supports un-learning and re-learning, working towards a goal of increasing cultural safety, anti-racist practice, and trauma awareness. This is inspired by Indigenous midwives' teachings and in the spirit of reconciliation. She is thrilled to be teaching undergraduate students who are our future midwives.
Professor Booth likes to spend time outdoors - making attempts at gardening, going for hikes and walks, or better yet, getting on the water when possible in a canoe or kayak.
