Bio/Research

Dr. Seyyed Milad Shirvani is an Assistant Professor of Global Management Studies at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University. He earned his PhD in Management, with a specialization in International Business, from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and previously held postdoctoral fellowship appointments at HEC Montréal and Simon Fraser University.

Dr. Shirvani’s research lies at the intersection of international business, the geography of innovation, and political economy. He examines how two intertwined transformations of the global economy—technological change and geopolitical fragmentation—are reshaping the strategies of governments and multinational enterprises. His broader research focuses on sensitive technologies, global value chains, friendshoring, supply-chain resilience, and international public and private procurement. Drawing on large-scale patent, firm-level, trade, geopolitical, and policy data, his research investigates how governments and businesses adapt to technological disruption and evolving cross-border relationships. His work has been presented at Global Affairs Canada, Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, the International Economic Forum of the Americas, and international academic conferences.
