Bio/Research

Youngme Seo is Assistant Professor in the Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). Previously she was an Assistant Professor at Iowa State University and teaching real estate courses. She also worked for major mortgage banks, JP Morgan Chase and Citibank. She has experienced in doing quantitative analysis using various statistical models and handling large data sets. She also worked for Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland as a Research Associate. She was actively involved in various projects on topics such as neighbourhood indicators, loan modification, and foreclosure. In addition, she has experience with state governments for policy evaluation projects, and city governments for an economic development project and vacant land survey.

Her research interests lie in mortgage default, real estate finance, urban housing economics, and spatial econometrics. Her research questions not only stem from academic curiosity, but also her practical experience from reaching out to homeowners, residents, and communities. In particular, her industry experience with major mortgage banks allows her to gain and deepen her knowledge of how to define practical real estate problems, how to obtain relevant data, and how to analyze it. She has published her scholarly works in journals such as Journal of Real Estate Research, Applied Energy, Journal of Sustainable Real Estate, and International Real Estate Review. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Public Affairs and Urban Studies from Cleveland State University.
