Bio/Research

Dr. Catherine Ellis’ research explores political ideas, problem-solving and decision-making in modern Britain, particularly in relation to the growing influence of young people and youth culture on political life since the Second World War. Her work has appeared in journals such as Contemporary British History, Journal of Political Ideologies, and Journal of British Studies, as well as the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and edited volumes. Her teaching includes courses on modern Britain, the Third Reich, children and youth, and intellectual history. Dr. Ellis is a member of the graduate faculty at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and at McMaster University. She has recently served as department Chair (2013-17 and 2018-21) and on the university’s Board of Governors (2017-21). In 2020-21, she co-chaired the Standing Strong (Mash Koh Wee Kah Pooh Win) Task Force.
