Gerda Cammaer is a filmmaker, scholar and co-director of the Documentary Media Research Centre. She is the co-editor of Cinephemera: Archives, Ephemeral Cinema, and New Screen Histories in Canada (McGill University Press, 2014) and Critical Distance in Documentary Media (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018). Her main areas of interest are personal essay films, landscape films, ecocinema, travel films, home movies and found footage. Her current research focuses on how mobile devices challenge the expectations and definitions of documentary film and how they generally contribute to the “demythologizing” of the filmmaking process.
