Bio/Research

June Komisar is a registered architect in Massachusetts and an Associate Professor in the Department of Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). She holds an M.Arch. (Yale) and a doctorate in architecture, specializing in history and theory (Michigan). Recently, she has been introducing urban agriculture issues into the architectural curriculum: June recently taught the courses "Designing the Productive City: Architecture and Urban Agriculture," and the graduate design studio called the "Post-Carbon Communities Studio."

She is also a mentor for thesis students working with food issues in their design projects. These thesis projects have included an urban farm, a slow food cooking school, a greenhouse and market complex under an elevated highway, and a cooperative housing complex with a community garden. She is a member of the Toronto Food Policy Council and a co-curator for the exhibit Carrot City: Designing for Urban Agriculture (https://www.torontomu.ca/carrotcity/). She is also a board member of ICOMOS Canada ESC, and on the Scientific Committee od the 2nd International Conference on Heritage and Sustainable development - HERITAGE 2010, sponsored by the Greenlines Institute.
