Professor Kiana Basiri joined the Real Estate Management Department of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in 2020. Her research focuses on using econometric tools to understand the relationship between housing and credit markets. Her primary research interest centres on Real Estate Economics, Housing Policy, Household Finance, Consumer Bankruptcies and Default.
Prior to joining the university, Dr. Basiri was a Senior Specialist in the Housing Research Division of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). She has conducted quantitative analyses using various statistical models to tackle policy questions that have been part of key housing policy debates. She has led research projects on mortgage fraud, mortgage defaults and economic stability with a structural view of mortgage loan insurance.
Dr. Basiri’s research has been published in journals such as Real Estate Economics and Canadian Public Policy. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Economics from HEC Montreal.
