Dr. Tiessen is an Associate Professor in Professional Communication at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson) and is currently the Graduate Program Director for the School of Professional Communication's Masters (MPC) program. Dr. Tiessen holds a SSHRC Insight Grant in the area of “Digital Economy.” His research focuses on the ways mobile technologies are used to develop algorithmically driven logics and platforms to govern and enhance everyday activities. Matthew's research also focuses on visual communication and design, affect and aesthetic theory, finance and power, and critical information studies.
