Owen Lyons is a scholar of film history and digital media, musician and documentarian based out of Toronto. He currently teaches across several departments across the Image Arts program at Toronto Metropolitian University (formally Ryerson) and holds a doctoral degree in Cultural Mediations from Carleton University. His monograph, The World Economy in Weimar Cinema, forthcoming with Amsterdam University Press, analyzes representations of finance and speculation in the films of the Weimar Republic and shows how fictions of finance contributed to the popular discourse surrounding speculation and the emerging image of the global economy. His current research addresses the visual culture of 21st century financial markets and cinematic uses of artificial intelligence. His documentary work has addressed issues of nationalism and cultural memory in the Balkans and he currently performs and produces electronic music and is developing a documentary on intergenerational trauma in Northern Ireland.
